Response of soil carbon dioxide efflux to temporal repackaging of rainfall into fewer, larger events in a semiarid grassland

چکیده
Changing rainfall patterns will alter soil water availability to plants and microbes likely impact CO 2 efflux (F s ) in semiarid ecosystems. However, our understanding of the response F compound changes event size frequency remains relatively limited. To address this knowledge gap, we examined how a grassland by deploying automated chambers at manipulation experiment. All plots within experiment received equal total summer growing season precipitation that was temporally repackaged into regular events inversely varied frequency, with sizes ranging from 5 50 mm dry intervals 3.5 21 days. We found repackaging few/large long decreased seasonal cumulative . Repackaging influenced key aspects pulses including mean, maximum, antecedent (day before irrigation) values moisture their rate decline during drying intervals. Soil explained substantial variation (R > 0.84) for all treatments; however, sensitivity regime compared reference many/small regimes. Dynamics plant phenology (quantified plot greenness) temperature interacted influence evolution efflux. Our findings demonstrate vegetation responses emissions grasslands. These results, coupled play an outsized role dryland carbon exchange, indicate possibility future climate-mediated shifts cycling

15 صفحه اولEffects of seasonal drought on net carbon dioxide exchange from a woody-plant-encroached semiarid grassland
[1] Annual precipitation in the central and southern warm-desert region of North America is distributed climatologically between summer and winter periods with two prominent dry periods between them. We used energy and carbon dioxide (CO2) fluxes from eddy covariance along with standard meteorological and soil moisture measurements at a semiarid savanna in southern Arizona, United States, to be...
متن کاملResponse of soil microbial biomass and enzyme activities to the transient elevation of carbon dioxide in a semi-arid grassland
Although elevation of CO2 has been reported to impact soil microbial functions, little information is available on the spatial and temporal variation of this effect. The objective of this study was to determine the microbial response in a northern Colorado shortgrass steppe to a 5-year elevation of atmospheric CO2 as well as the reversibility of the microbial response during a period of several...
متن کاملfrom linguistics to literature: a linguistic approach to the study of linguistic deviations in the turkish divan of shahriar
chapter i provides an overview of structural linguistics and touches upon the saussurean dichotomies with the final goal of exploring their relevance to the stylistic studies of literature. to provide evidence for the singificance of the study, chapter ii deals with the controversial issue of linguistics and literature, and presents opposing views which, at the same time, have been central to t...
15 صفحه اولCarbon dioxide efflux from a 550 m soil across a range of soil temperatures
Because of scaling problems point measurements of soil CO2 efflux on a small volume of soil may not necessarily reflect an overall community response. The aim of this study was to test this hypothesis in the Biosphere 2 facility and achieve the following broad goals: (1) investigate soil net CO2 exchange–temperature relationship at the community level; (2) compare soil net CO2 exchange at the c...
